GRIFFITH - Richard N. “Dick,” 84, Ebensburg RD, passed away July 9, 2011. Born August 13, 1926, in Cambria Township, son of John Norman and Kathryn Salsgiver Griffith. Preceded in death by parents, stepmother, Betty Griest Griffith, and loving wife of 60 years, June Griffith. Survived by his three children: Sally, wife of Glen McWhorter; Doug and wife Jacquie; Scott and wife Diane; grandchildren: Matt McWhorter, Adam Griffith, Eric Griffith, and Kate Griffith. Dick graduated from Ebensburg Cambria High School, served his country in the Pennsylvania National Guard, and completed his education at Penn State with a BS in Animal Husbandry and Dairy Food Production. He married June in 1949 and joined his father in running Griffith Farm Dairy. Together, they provided milk and dairy products to innumerable households and businesses around the area for over 30 years. Dick was a 60 year member of Ebensburg Presbyterian Church where he served as Deacon, Elder, Trustee, and was Clerk of Session for 20 years. For the Salem Homecoming Association, he served as treasurer and trustee. As a member of the Kiwanis Club and Mount Herman Cemetery he served as president. Dick was also a member of Summit Lodge # 312 F & AM, Scottish Rite of Altoona and Jaffa Mosque. Friends will be received from 7-9 PM Sunday evening and on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg, where a Masonic Service will be held on Monday evening at 7 PM. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday morning at 11:00 AM at the Ebensburg Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Donna Hess officiating. Interment at Lloyd Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Cambria Township Volunteer Fire Company or the Ebensburg Area Ambulance Association.
