EVANS – Mahlon R., 90, Cranberry Township, formerly of Chippewa Township, died Saturday, July 14, 2012, at Sherwood Nursing Center. He was born May 4, 1922, in Ebensburg. Mahlon was the son of the late Earl S. and Frieda Owens Evans. He was a 1940 graduate of Cambria High School and a 1947 graduate of Geneva College. He was an active member of College Hill Presbyterian Church for 60-plus years where he served as elder and trustee as well as music director for 20 years. He retired in 1985, after 38 years of service from Standard Steel Specialty in West Mayfield. He was a past member and director of Kiwanis. He was a wounded veteran of World War II, receiving a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He served in the 9th Infantry Division and was wounded in Normandy in July 1944. He enjoyed woodworking, chair caning and golfing. He is survived by his wife, Roberta “Bertie” Hughes Evans; four sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Lucy Evans, Dallas, Texas; Jeffrey and Carol Evans, Beaver; R. Mark and Mary Beth Evans, Beaver Falls; and Craig and Katherine Evans, Bulverde,Texas; nine grandchildren, Nate (Jean Morris) Evans, Richard Evans, Aniko (Adam) Nalevanko, Jason (Nikki) Evans, Jennifer (Drew) Henry, Rachael (Chris) Seip, Amanda (Logan) Jones, Sam Evans and Matthew Evans; and five great-grandchildren, Marc Evans, Karson Seip, Brooke Nalevanko, Reagan Seip and Addison Jones. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Margaret Jeanie Cox Evans, and a sister and brother-in-law, Henrietta and Roger Hughes. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Lutton Funeral Home, Chippewa, 117 Blackhawk Road. Mr. Evans will lie in state from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at College Hill Presbyterian Church, 3400 5th Ave., Beaver Falls, Pastor Dennis Burnett will officiate. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Lloyd Cemetery in Ebensburg.
