LYONS – Betty Jane (Houck) “B.J”., of Ebensburg passed away peacefully July 24, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. Daughter of the late Budd and Leona Houck. Preceded in death by husband James H. Lyons, Jr.; brother William H. Houck and his wife; and brother-in-law Ralph Lyons. Survived by children: Linda Lyons Hall, of Georgia; James H. (Laurel) Lyons III, Ebensburg; Patty Jayne (Donald) Supcoe, West Virginia, eight grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, and two nieces. B.J. was a graduate of the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. An accomplished pianist, music educator and artist, she loved to play piano and sing. She was a former teacher and music supervisor for the Ridgeway Public Schools; had taught music in the Ebensburg and Colver Schools, was owner/operator of the former Lyons Music Store & Studios in Ebensburg. B.J. sang with the Johnstown Symphony Chorale, was founder of the Northern Cambria County Symphony Auxiliary Group, and had served on the board of directors for both organizations. Member of the Ebensburg and Ridgeway Woman’s Clubs. B.J. enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Sunnehanna Country Club. A longtime member of the Ebensburg Presbyterian Church. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., July 26th, at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., July 27th, at the Ebensburg Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Jim Farrer, officiating. Entombment at Grandview Mausoleum, Johnstown. In lieu of other memorials, donations may be made in Betty’s memory to the Ebensburg Presbyterian Church.
