Cynthia (Sponsky) Hale, 47, died on Sunday, August 19 at Memorial Medical Center. In the days prior to her passing, she celebrated her birthday (August 17, 1965) and her 15th wedding anniversary to Curt Hale. Cynthia was loved by many and is remembered for her kind heart, generous soul and ability to overcome the greatest of challenges. Cynthia was the recipient of a kidney transplant in 2001 and 2003 and was preparing for another kidney transplant next month. As such, she was a strong supporter and promoter of organ donation. Prior to her illness she worked in the housekeeping department and as a clerk at the Ebensburg Center. Cynthia attended Bishop Carroll High School and Alliance College (PA). Cynthia’s interests included Bingo, trips to Pittsburgh, traveling, visiting the beach, cooking, entertaining, and relaxing with her dog, Coco. She also enjoyed cheering on the football teams of her brother and cousin and playing with her niece and nephew. She was a member of Holy Name Church. Cynthia was preceded in death by her infant brother, Michael, and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Sponsky and Mr. and Mrs. Michael Pavia and James Leon. She is survived by husband, Curt; stepdaughter, Cassandra Hale; parents, Chuck and Carole (Leon) Sponsky; brother Craig and Krista (Myers) Sponsky and their children, Chessa and Cole; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, August 22 from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm at Askew Houser Funeral Home in Ebensburg. Fr. Charlie Amershek and Rev. Monsignor Arnold Gaus will officiate a mass celebrating Cynthia at Holy Name Church on Thursday, August 23 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the National Kidney Foundation in Cynthia’s honor.
