EVANS - Evelyn (DeBerry), 91, passed away on August 16, 2012 at the Inova Hospital in Falls Church, Virginia, after suffering an acute myocardial infarction. She was born in Weldon, North Carolina on January 22, 1921, the daughter of the late Jeanette and Mark DeBerry. She was the beloved wife of Clair R. Evans, who died on October 8, 1993; devoted and loving mother of Janette Munsey and her husband Kenneth of Sudbury, Massachusetts, and loving grandmother of Deborah M. Cibotti and her husband Ben and Kenneth R. Munsey and his wife Karen, all of Wayland, Massachusetts. She also leaves her great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Christine Cibotti and Matthew and Katharine Munsey. Survivors include her sister Lee Ann Hudson of Virginia Beach, Virginia and brother, Norman Dean DeBerry of Hampton, Virginia, as well as many nieces, nephews and special, caring neighborhood friends. During her husband’s service in World War II, Evelyn did her part in the war effort by working at the Sylvania Defense Plant in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. After the war she and her family moved to Washington D.C. and, later, to Springfield, Virginia, thus living in the D.C. Metropolitan area for sixty-six years. Evelyn was an assistant buyer for the Esther Children’s Shop in D.C. and later worked as a bookkeeper for Eastern Overall Company in Alexandria, Virginia until her retirement. She was a member of the Eleanor Wilson Chapter, D.C. Daughters of the American Revolution and past Regent of Louisa Adams Chapter, D.C. DAR. A memorial service will be held 2:00 P.M., Saturday , September 15, 2012 at the Askew-Houser Funeral Home in Ebensburg, Pennsylvania with her beloved nephew, the Reverend Clair Robert Karcher officiating. Memorial donations may be made to The Salvation Army.
