BURLEY – Joseph J., 79, Cresson, died Sept. 5, 2012, at home. Born March 5, 1933, in Loretto, son of the late John and Ethel (Vaught) Burley. Preceded in death by wife, Betty Lou (McCartney); son, Capt. Stephen Burley, USMC, and his wife, Jude; and sisters, Patricia Maus and Mary Judith Russo. Survived by sons, Martin (Isabel), Stratford, N.J.; and Lewis (Lidia), Laurel Springs, N.J.; grandchildren, Stephen Burley Jr.; Nicole and Briana Burley; and Erin, Joseph and Nicholas Burley; and siblings, John “Buck” Burley, Houston, Texas; and Joan Smajda, Johnstown. He served with the U.S. Army in Japan in the post-Korean War era. Retired auto body painter and mechanic. He enjoyed his family, wildlife and the outdoors. Friends received from 9 a.m. until time of service at 10 a.m. Saturday at Charles M. Kennedy Funeral Home, Cresson, the Very Rev. Father John D. Byrnes. Committal service with military honors will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Beverly National Cemetery, Beverly, N.J. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wounded Warriors Project.
