FINKLE - Joan (Numer), 82, of Ebensburg, formerly of Huntingdon, died November 5, 2012 at Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. Born Oct. 16, 1930 in Huntingdon, daughter of the late Grant C. and Ethel W. (Young) Numer. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she is preceded in death by brother Jack and husband Robert E. Finkle, whom she married in July of 1950 in Huntingdon. Survived by sons Michael J (Pam Gannon) Finkle, R. Scott (Brenda Howe) Finkle and daughter Rebecca A. (Charles) Koren. Joan was grandmother to Amy, Julie and Chrissy Koren; and Andrew and Kathleen Flanagan. She is also survived by her cousin and best friend Mart Christopher along with many special extended family members: Frank and Joe Koren, Mike and Mary Koren, Jane and Linda Numer, Penny Hurley and so many others who loved her and will miss her very much. Joan graduated from Huntingdon High School in 1948. She worked for many years at the Juniata College and eventually retired from the Department of Public Welfare in 1988. She then moved to Pittsburgh to become a full-time grandmother, angel and “Nan” for her three granddaughters, A job she embraced and fulfilled in the most wonderful way imagined. She moved to Ebensburg with the Koren family in 1990 and volunteered as a lunch lady for many years at Holy Name School. Nan gave inspiration and peace to all who came into her life. She was an especially good listener with a kind ear and word for all her friends and family. She enjoyed her bingo games, political discussions and yards sales with her family. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg, where a funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, the Rev. Geno Bartoletti, officiating. Interment at Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon, Pa. A devoted lover of all animals, Joan had a special love for Itsy, Casey, Dakin, Erin, Maggie, Mr. Fezziwig and Bryce. It was Nan’s wish to have donations in her memory sent to the Huntingdon or Cambria County Humane Society.
