SLOAN - Helen, 93, formerly of Turner Apts, Ebensburg and Colver, passed away November 14, 2012 at Miner’s Hospital of Northern Cambria County. Born May 26, 1919 in Lumphinnens, Fife, Scotland, daughter of the late John and Helen (Johnston) Low. Last surviving member of her immediate family, she is preceded in death by husband, William, brothers John and Jim Low, sister Elizabeth Lorenzen, grandchildren Steven and Mary Ellen Sloan and Nicole Marie Yoder, and son-in-law Harold Bird. Survived by children: James (Carol) Sloan, Clarkston, Michigan; Helen Bird, Ravenna, Ohio; Jean (James) Bloom and Janet (John) Yoder, all of Ebensburg; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was retired from Laurel Crest Manor and a member of the Colver Presbyterian Church. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Thursday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg, where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, Mr. Bill Plummer, lay minister, officiating. Interment at Lloyd Cemetery, Ebensburg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Colver Presbyterian Church in Helen’s memory.
