Obituary of Gerald F. Wyland

Gerald F. Wyland Sr., 73, Cresson, died Wednesday at home. He was born in Cresson, son of the late Norman and Mary Monica (Waltz) Wyland. He married Linda Adams on June 18, 1966. Surviving are his wife and four children: Gerald Jr. and wife, Tracy Wilt, of Altoona and their four children: Garett Wyland (Caitlyn), Angela Wyland, Cory Wilt and Jannell Wilt; Brent and wife, Michele, of Virginia Beach, Va., and their four children: David Wyland and wife, Molly, and their son, Ethan, Christopher Wyland and his son, Quinnton, Brandi Wyland and Alivia Wyland; JoeAnna Alverson of Altoona and her two children: Mariah and Nathan Alverson; and Robert and wife, Stephanie, of Altoona and their three sons: Steffan, Brodee and Tanner. Also surviving are three siblings: Beverly Stevens (Terry) of Altoona, Joseph Barry (Becky) in Arkansas and William (Mary Ann) of Cresson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Mary Margaret Adams; a brother, Boyd David; and twin siblings: Alice and Stephen. Gerald was a retired coal miner. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and a life member of Cresson Community Sportsman's Association. He loved spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, gardening and canning, and he taught his family how to hunt and fish. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 16, 2012, at Charles M. Kennedy Funeral Home, Cresson, followed by a funeral service at 8 p.m., the Very Rev. Father John D. Byrnes officiating. Committal will be in St. Aloysius Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Urology Unit at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.
