MIELNIK – Joseph S. “Joe”, 88, of Ebensburg, passed away peacefully November 17, 2012 at home. Born July 30, 1924 in Hollidaysburg, son of the late John and Anna (Dorochenko) Mielnik. Preceded in death by wife, the former Glenna Evans Mielnik, who died in 2006; brothers Frank, Paul, Stan, Cletus and Richard Mielnik; sister Helen Baker, and two great grandsons. Survived by children: Teresa (Mielnik) Little, of Ebensburg and David Mielnik of Painesville, Ohio. Also survived by six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Joseph retired as an operating engineer for the former Vipond & Vipond Company, and was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers. A World War II veteran, Joseph served in the 11th Airborne Division of the U.S. Army in the South Pacific. He was a hard working man who enjoyed spending time with his family. He was an avid sportsman, enjoying hunting and spending time with his hound dogs at his hand built cabin. Most of all, he loved laughing. A master story teller, he had a special talent for making all those around him laugh. Especially during the most difficult and trying situations, he could always make you chuckle and put a smile on your face. At Joe’s request, there will be no viewing. A memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg., the Rev. Msgr. Arnold L. Gaus, officiating. Interment at Lloyd Cemetery, Ebensburg. Graveside military ritual by the Menoher Post 155 VFW Ritual Team. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe’s memory may be made to the Windber Hospice.
