HUBER – Ruth Margaret (Miller), 89, Ebensburg, died peacefully Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at her daughter’s home in Mechanicsburg, Pa., with her family at her side. Born March 2, 1923, in Carrolltown, the youngest daughter of Serenus I. and Zita (Dumm) Miller. Preceded in death by parents; beloved husband of 61 years, Guy E. Huber; and sisters, Leona (Miller) Strittmatter and Rita (Miller) O’Neill. Survived by devoted children, Murray, married to the former Grace Mathias, Mechanicsburg; Jim, married to the former Andrea Dillaway, Wyomissing; Mary Joyce, Middletown; Barbara, married to Harry D’Arcy, Mechanicsburg; Mark, married to the former Colleen Hoover, Lewisburg; and Bill, married to the former Lesley Hoak, Mechanicsburg. She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Katie and Steve Huber; Deana and Danielle Teeter; Patrick, and wife, Sarah; Joe, Mike and Tom D’Arcy; Ryan, Renee, Neil and Graham Huber; Abby, Jessie and Ali Huber; Joe, and wife, Cara; and Sarah. Also survived by siblings-in-law and their spouses, Gretchen and Robert Allison, Penn Valley, Calif.; Jane and Massey Gibson, Lansdowne, Pa.; Gene and Naomi Huber, Brooklyn, Ohio; Carl and Toni Huber, Ebensburg; Karl Lavallee, Holden, Mass.; Dick Huber, Altoona; and Ina Claire Huber, Ebensburg. Ruth graduated with honors from Carrolltown High School in 1940. She worked briefly as a bookkeeper for Peale, Peacock & Kerr Coal Co., St. Benedict, before marrying Guy Huber on Oct. 22, 1949, at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, Carrolltown, with her cousin Father Wilfred Dumm, OSB, celebrant. A true homemaker, Ruth learned to work hard, appreciate nature and help others as a farm girl growing up on the Dutch Road, Carrolltown. She devoted much time and energy to raising six healthy, happy, college-educated children, and supporting her husband’s successful banking career. Ruth was an active member of Holy Name Catholic Church, Ebensburg, where she helped prepare meals for guests after weddings and funerals in the church hall. She also volunteered with children in the Holy Name Elementary School library and cafeteria for many years. She participated in the Nocturnal Adoration Society and attended daily Mass with her husband, Guy. Ruth also served her community through activities with the Catholic Daughters of America, Ebensburg Post 363 American Legion auxiliary and Ebensburg Women’s Club. Ruth loved family, gardening, reading, saying her prayers and playing cards with family and friends. She had a gift for remembering family genealogy and rarely missed sending birthday and anniversary greetings to her many relatives and friends. Always humble and ready to laugh, Ruth was a caring and loving woman who enjoyed life and lived her faith through service to her family, friends, church and community. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at Holy Name Catholic Church, Ebensburg, the Rev. Monsignor Arnold L. Gaus, celebrant. Friends will be received at the church beginning at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Mass requests in memory of Ruth will be appreciated. Arrangements by Matevish and Matevish Funeral Home, Ebensburg.
