HOOVER Gerald C., 79, Cambria Township, passed away Dec. 6, 2013, at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. Born May 29, 1934, in Carrolltown, son of the late Clement T. and Ada C. Hoover. Preceded in death by brothers, Richard and Robert. Survived by wife, Marie, to whom he was married 55 years; children, Colleen (Mark) Huber, Lewisburg; Dr. Wayne (Carol) Hoover, Chambersburg; Dr. Craig (Laura) Hoover, Culpeper, Va.; and Dr. Brett (Angela) Hoover, Lebanon; grandchildren, Ryan, Renee, Neil and Graham Huber; David, Brinna, Ben and Lydia Hoover; Kara (Jeremy) Fox; Avery and Nolan Hoover; and Emilia and Miles Hoover; and great-granddaughter, Paige Fox. Also survived by brother, Charles Pat Hoover, Florida. Jerry was a retired special education teacher for Central Cambria School District and IU8, having taught 29 years. A graduate of St. Francis University, with a bachelor s degree, and Penn State University, where he received his master s degree. He was a member of the NEA and PSEA and a former trustee for the PASR. He also served for many years on the Cambria Township Planning Commission. Member of Holy Name Roman Catholic Church, Ebensburg, where he had served on the parish council, serving six years as chairman, and on the church cemetery committee. An active member of the Knights of Columbus, he had been a past Grand Knight and past District Deputy, Chancellor and served as the council s financial secretary for 13 years. Jerry was a man of great faith in God, who loved his family deeply. His wit and charm made him friends wherever he went. His family will be forever grateful and miss him greatly. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Askew-Houser Funeral Homes Inc., Ebensburg, where a vigil prayer service will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Name Church, the Rev. Msgr. David Lockard, celebrant. Entombment, Holy Name Mausoleum. In lieu of other memorials, please offer spiritual bouquets and Masses. Knights of Columbus memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
