RUBIS – John, 88, formerly of Vintondale, passed away March 14, 2019 at Cambria Care Center, Ebensburg. Born October 5, 1930 in Vintondale, son of the late James and Goldie (Lutz) Rubis. Preceded in death by sisters Jennie Kolesar and Mary (Oliver) Medwick, brother James Rubis and three infant brothers. Survived by brothers Michael (Jean) Rubis, Texas; and Franklin D. Rubis and his partner Leroy T. Lewis, Florida. Also survived by sister-in-law Ella Mae Rubis, Somerset and numerous nieces and nephews. John was a member of the former Sts. Timothy & Mark Chapel, Vintondale, and now St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Nanty Glo. A Korean War veteran, he had served the Air Force for four years. Retired, he had been employed as a salesman for the mining industry for many years. John was a great baker, especially known for his excellent pie making. Friends will be received from 9:00 a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo, the Rev. Leonard Voytek, officiating. Interment at Holy Name Cemetery, Ebensburg.
