DEJOHN - Mary Frances (McFadden), of Sharon, passed away unexpectedly at 6:20 p.m. Monday (4-21-14) in St. Elizabeth s Health Center, Youngstown. She was 87. Mrs. DeJohn was born May 1, 1926, in Sharon to George Linus and Jane Frances Byrne McFadden. She graduated from Sharon High School in 1944. Prior to her marriage, Mrs. DeJohn served as the assistant society page editor at what is now The Herald newspaper in Sharon. On Sept. 23, 1950, she was married to Kenneth Philip DeJohn Sr. in St. Joseph s Church, Sharon, by Edward Cardinal Mooney, Archbishop of Detroit, her great-uncle, who is now deceased. She served as past president of Sharon General Hospital Auxiliary, John XXIIII Home for Senior Citizens Auxiliary, the Newman Circle and the St. Joseph s Church Women s Guild. She was a lifelong active member of St. Joseph s Parish in Sharon. Mary Frances also was involved in St. Joseph s School Parent Teachers Association and the Kennedy Christian Eagles Organization. She was an active member of the former Mercer County Crippled Children s Bridge, Notre Dame Mission Bridge, Twelve Pals Duplicate Bridge, St. Joseph s Small Christian Groups and Mercer County Serra Club, and served as a volunteer at Prince of Peace Center, Farrell. She enjoyed traveling to visit family and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Mary Fran celebrated her Irish heritage on St. Patrick s Day each year and in a visit with family to Ireland. Her beloved husband, Kenneth DeJohn Sr., passed away April 22, 2006. She leaves: her children, a daughter, Jane Kretchman, Ebensburg, Pa.; a son, Kenneth DeJohn Jr. and his wife Panda, Sugar Land, Texas; a daughter, Annette O Neil and her husband Dennis, Farrell; and a son, Christopher and his wife Suzanne, Macungie, Pa.; and her grandchildren, Laura Kretchman, Suzanne Sakmar (husband Rob), Janelle DeJohn, Caitlin O Neil, Colleen O Neil, Connor DeJohn, Kathryn DeJohn and Ryan DeJohn. Her grandchildren were the highlight of her life. She also is survived by her sister-in-law, Floretta McFadden, Edgewater, Md.; her brother, Bernard McFadden and wife Georgia, Keystone Heights, Fla.; her brother, Edward F. McFadden and wife Judie, Houston; her sister-in-law, Jane McFadden, Fitchburg, Mass.; her sister, Margaret McCormick, Arlington, Va.; and her close friend and cousin, Sarah Sally Stephenson. As an active member of the community, she enjoyed many friends from her church and bridge activities. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Mary Agnes; her sisters, Anne Louise Lumpp and Marie Jane McFadden; her brothers, Maj. Gen. George McFadden Jr., John McFadden, Joseph McFadden and Eugene McFadden; and a son-in-law, Paul Kretchman.
