Obituary of Leonard J. Marchitelli

MARCHITELLI - Leonard James "Apple Jack," 86, of Ebensburg, Pa., died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, at Conemaugh Valley Hospital, Johnstown. He was born June 29, 1919, in Salina, Pa., the son of the late Frank and Lucy Rotolo Marchitelli. Before his retirement in 1982, he was employed as a coal miner for 44 years with the Greenwich Colleries Mining Co. in Coalport, Pa. Mr. Marchitelli was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II in the Asiatic Theater. He was a member of the St. Benedict's Roman Catholic Church in Carrolltown, Pa. He was also a member of the Francesco Ferrero Lodge in Avonmore and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Anna Mary Ferrero Marchitelli; two sons, Frederick J. Marchitelli and John Leonard Marchitelli, both of Ebensburg; one grandson, Chad Allen Marchitelli; two sisters, Theresa Downs and Mary Greek, and her husband, Ronald, all of Latrobe; a half brother, Frank Marchitelli, and his wife, Anna Mary, of Saltsburg; a half sister, Madeline Emeriko, and her husband, Robert, of North Apollo; and a stepbrother, Dominick Peduzzi. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth J. Marchitelli, in February of 1985; two sisters, Josephine Marchitelli and Philomena Shankle; and two brothers, John and Joseph Marchitelli. Friends will be received Monday, August 29, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday, August 30, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Kelly L. Corridoni Funeral Home Ltd., 400 Indiana Ave., Avonmore, Pa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, August 31, at 10 a.m. in the St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, with the Rev. Father Peter L. Peretti as celebrant. Interment will follow in the West View Cemetery, Avonmore, Pa.
