Obituary of Clyde Robert Makin

MAKIN – Clyde Robert “Bobby”, 60, of South Ebensburg (Portage) passed away June 2, 2017 as a result of an ATV accident at Rock Run ATV Park. Born May 12, 1957 in Colver, son of Robert A. and Ann (Larimer) Makin. Survived by his parents, at home; daughters: Amy Elizabeth Makin (Chastity Hagerman) Indiana; Heather (Matthew) Dombrosky, Sidman; and Samantha (J.J.) Powell, Thompson Station, TN.; grandchildren: Mackenzie & Hannah Persio; Adyson, Tayler, Maddox, RuthAnn, and Mattie Dombrosky; and Aria & Ellis Powell. Also survived by brother, Robert Stephen “Steve” (Darlene) Makin; and sisters: Rebecca Lynn (Joseph) Klezek, and Sandra Jean (Brian) Sossong, all of Ebensburg; nieces and nephews: Stephen, Michael, & Codi Makin; Joe & Sarah Klezek, Jesse Sossong, and Krista Templeton; and his loyal care givers Janette Gruss and Anita. He is preceded in death by his sister Debra Ann Heimrich. Bobby graduated from Central Cambria High School in 1975. As owner of Makin Muscle, strength training was always his passion. Bobby was a sports enthusiast, played football in high school and through college as a student at Slippery Rock University, and on to semi-pro experience with the Virginia Storm and Sto-Rox. As a Certified Strength & Conditioning Coach in Colorado Springs, Colorado, for the NSCA, he trained and worked as an advisor for the 1988 US Olympic Team, pro athletes, high school and college programs as well as individuals. One of his most distinguished achievements was placing 4th at the National Powerlifting Championships in 1986. Known for his adventurous love of the wilderness, he enjoyed spending time with his family. His annual Thanksgiving Day full contact basketball game with his children and nieces and nephews, followed by a movie night will long be remembered. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hiking, exploring, rattlesnake hunting, horse shows, riding his ATV, following “his” Oakland Raiders, and will long be remembered for his care in being a 4-H leader, for coaching kids, hosting Little League summer parties and telling his favorite ghost stories. Bobby was a lifelong member of the South Ebensburg United Church of Christ, where he served as a Sunday School teacher. At his request there will be no viewing. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 24th, at the South Ebensburg United Church of Christ, the Rev. Charles Davis, officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to his church, the South Ebensburg United Church of Christ, 380 Wilmore Road, Portage, Pa 15946.
