EWING – Beatrice E. “Bea”, 93, of Colver, passed away June 11, 2017. Born Sept. 30, 1923. Over 93 years, Bea was a devoted wife, mother of 3, grandmother of 6 & GiGi to 4 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick in 2006, & her youngest daughter, Denise in 2001. Bea & Dick joined the Colver Presbyterian Church in 1958, shortly after arriving in Colver from the suburbs of Pittsburgh. They were a team that was always available to chaperone childrens’ outings, Masonic events & church activities. They were pillars of the church & the community. She was a stay-at-home mom that sewed the clothes they wore & baked bread & home-made meals. After her children were old enough, she pursued a full time job in 1965 as an operator at the State School in Ebensburg, retiring in 1985. She lived alone in her Colver miner’s house, surrounded & supported by friends & her church for over 11 years. She was always ready for the cold, tough winters and visits from family. Her hobbies and creative talents kept her busy making candies, sewing quilts, crocheting for various charity organizations, & knitting Christmas stockings for family & friends. She was loving, generous & always fair. She will be missed by all who knew & loved her. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at Colver Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Stanley Bhasker, officiating. Interment, Lakewood Memorial Gardens, Cheswick.
