John C. Greene, 80, of Strongstown, formerly of Carteret, NJ passed away on Friday, Oct. 13 at Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown, PA, in the care of his loving daughters. Born on May 12, 1937 to Estay and Sara Greene of Twin Rocks, John grew up and lived most of his life in the area before moving to Carteret, NJ where he raised his family. He moved back to the area in 2003. John was a proud and firm believer in Christianity and a member of the United Methodist Church in Strongstown. He was also a Past Master of Theodore Roosevelt Lodge #219 F&AM in Carteret, NJ and a current traveler to Summit Lodge #312 of Ebensburg and Indiana Franklin Lodge #313 in Indiana. John was preceded in death by his beloved wife Helen (nee Snyder) Greene, sisters Judy and Rosella Cook and recently his companion Patricia Veltre. He is survived by his cherished daughters Tina Lathrop and her husband James, Denise Cairns and her husband Fr. James, his 3 adored grandchildren, Josh, James Douglas and Elizabeth. Also surviving are his siblings Joyce Ray, Jim Greene, Estay Greene, Susan Heilos and Rick Greene, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will begin on Wednesday Oct. 18th at 9am from the Askew-Houser Funeral Home 1310 Shoemaker Street, Nanty Glo, followed by a church service at 10:00am United Methodist Church in Strongstown with interment at Belsano United Methodist Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to view from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm on Tuesday at the funeral home with a Masonic service beginning at 7pm.
