Obituary of Fremont J. McKenrick

McKENRICK – Atty. Fremont J., 94, of Ebensburg, passed away January 7, 2018 at Amber Hills. Born June 19, 1923 in Ebensburg, son of the late Judge Ivan and Marian (Jones) McKenrick. Preceded in death by his son, Atty. Bruce F. McKenrick, and sisters Eleanor Miller and Josephine Tobie. Survived by his wife of 67 years, Margaret (Harvey) McKenrick; daughter Ann, wife of Gary Chicchi, East Brunswick, NJ; grandchildren: Sarah Chicchi, Rachel Chicchi, Laura Norris, Kevin McKenrick, and Neil McKenrick; and daughter-in-law Janis Stratton, Ebensburg. Fremont was a World War II Army veteran, having served in the Signal Corps in Germany. He was a graduate of Cornell University and Dickinson Law School and practiced law in Ebensburg for 57 years. Fremont was a gifted musician, well-known for sharing his musical gifts as the Ebensburg Presbyterian Church organist for over 60 years, as well as providing music for numerous functions in the Ebensburg community that he loved so much, singing in chorales, and playing in jazz bands whenever he could. He was also the Chimesmaster for the Cornell Chimes. Fremont was very active in the Cambria County Historical Society, serving as president for over 15 years, the Boy Scout Council, Kiwanis, Rotary, and other community organizations. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunter, skier and sailor, having served as a past Commodore of the Lake Glendale Sailing Club. Friends will be received from 6 – 8 pm Friday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday (Jan 13th) at the Ebensburg Presbyterian Church, Rev. Laura Blank, officiating. Interment at Lloyd Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ebensburg Presbyterian Church Organ Restoration Project Fund or the charity of your choice.
