CARNEY – Richard “Paul”. 86, of Strongstown, received his wings April 13, 2018. Born August 26, 1931 in Belsano, son of the late Samuel and Jessie (Reese) Carney. Last surviving member of his immediate family, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Patterson. Survived by wife, the former Ruth Edmiston; stepsons, David (Karen); Bill (Lydia); Edward (Bernadette); Charles (Janet) all of Ebensburg; stepdaughter, Nancy (Lee) of Franklin, TN.; and 21 step-grandchildren, 25 step-great grandchildren; and 7 step-great-great grandchildren. Paul retired as a crane man for the former Bethlehem Steel Corp. with 39 years of service and operated a used car business “Carney’s Auto Sales” in Strongstown. It was said of Paul that he was the only used car dealer that gave a lifetime warranty for a used vehicle. He loved car shows, flea markets, and thrift stores. He enjoyed traveling, having crossed the country several times and loved to visit friends and family in Florida. He was a friendly, generous and kind man, ready to give a hand to anyone in need. He was willing to be a father, grandfather and mentor to many of the children in his life. He served as vice president of the Bethel Church Historical Society and a proud member of the church his ancestors built. The family is very thankful for the kind care of the doctors and nurses at Conemaugh Hospital, the Harmony House, Cambria Care, Rebekah Manor and 365 Hospice who cared for him. Also thanks to Pastor Loren Marshall who ministered to him faithfully. Family and friends may gather from 1:00 p.m. until the time of Memorial Service at 3:00 p.m. Friday, April 20th, at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg, Pastor Loren Marshall, officiating.
