McFADDEN - Jean C, 92 of Ebensburg departed this life on July 18, 2018 at home with her family by her side. She was born January 9, 1926 in Uniontown, PA. Her parents Albert Bruce Crock and Pearl Mahaney Crock have preceded her in death. She was the youngest and last living sibling of five children. She had two brothers, William Crock and Albert Bruce Crock, along with two sisters, Alice Williams and Mary Martha Dinsmore. Jean met her future husband Frederick Joseph McFadden Jr. in Ebensburg while visiting her sister Mary when Fred was on leave from the service. He was visiting a friend in the apartment above her sister’s and they met on the stairs. She often has mentioned that it was love at first sight. They were married on April 12, 1947 and shared 66 years of marriage until Fred passed away February 19, 2014. Jean is survived by three children: Virginia McFadden Gesell and husband Tom, State College; Frederick “Mick” McFadden III and wife Annette, Ebensburg; Mary McFadden Boyle, and husband Mark, Morgantown WV; and grandchildren: Jeremiah Hyslop, Durango, CO (Katie), Dionne Persio (Kevin), Daphne Matlin (Ken), F. Joe McFadden IV (Tricia), and step granddaughter Amanda George (Matt), all of Ebensburg; Brienne Boyle Caranasos (Tommy),Chapel Hill, NC; Ryan Boyle and Tyler Boyle (Megan), Morgantown, WV, and great-grandchildren, Estella, Nova, Angelo, Camryn, Mitchell,F. Joey V, Tristan, Gianna, Evia, Maia, John, Kaine, Kruz, Kyia, Callen, Olivia, and one new grandchild on the way. She made a lovely home for her family that her husband was always proud of. Some of her interests were needle point, reading novels, especially historical ones, and gardening. She was quite the competitor in golf and bridge and any board game. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren will tell you that she enjoyed puzzles, reading to them and sharing stories. They would also mention that she instilled in them the importance of getting a proper education to succeed in life as well as learning etiquette and social skills. She was known for her quick wit and good sense of humor. Jean was a member of Holy Name Church. She and Fred were members of Ebensburg and Sunnehanna Country Clubs. Some other affiliations that she enjoyed were the Ebensburg Woman’s Club and the Daughters of American Revolution. Starting in 1975 they wintered in Naples, Florida where they enjoyed golf at the Mooring Bay Club and dinner with friends and family at the Naples Yacht Club. Friends and family will be received Monday from 10:00 am until 11:00 at Askew Houser Funeral Home in Ebensburg, followed by a Funeral Mass at Holy Name Church. Entombment will be at Holy Name Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jean’s name to the Ebensburg Free Public Library or Cambria County Historical Society.
