Obituary of Janet L. Sides

SIDES – Janet L. (Wega), 76, of Ebensburg, passed away peacefully September 2, 2018 at Windber Hospice. Born November 7, 1941 in Jackson Twp., daughter of the late Ernest Wega and Estella (Taylor) Wega-Berkebile. Last surviving member of her immediate family, she is preceded I n death by husband Robert S. Sides; brother, Ernest Wega and sister, Georgene Scott. Survived by son, Jeffrey Sides, at home. Janet was a graduate of the Ebensburg-Cambria Schools and Slippery Rock Teachers College (now SRU). She retired from the Central Cambria School District, where she served as a Physical Education & Health teacher for 35 years. A longtime member of the Ebensburg First Baptist Church, she was also active in the Red Hat Society, ADK Teacher’s Sorority, and was a second responder for the Dauntless Fire Company and a longtime volunteer in the fire departments’ kitchen. She enjoyed traveling (especially to Disney World) and spending time with her Red Hat sisters. Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 8th, at the Ebensburg First Baptist Church, the Rev. Jared Bowling, officiating. Interment at Ogden Cemetery, Jackson Twp. Arrangements are in the care of the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Janet’s memory to the Dauntless Fire Company.
