Obituary of Jim Shandor

SHANDOR - Jim “Jungle”, 76, of Nanty Glo, a native of Vintondale, died Sept. 17, 2019. Born Feb. 6, 1943. Preceded in death by parents, Joseph Sr. and Helen Shandor; infant brother; and nephew, Mark Shandor. Survived by wife, Georgetta (Miller) Shandor; and children, Tressa, wife of Rick Meek; Janette (Todd) Shaffer; Carol (Brian) Scanlon; and Carmella Hughes. 9 Grandchildren and 12 Great Grandchildren. Also survived by brothers, Joseph, Jr.; and Larry; sister, Rosemary, wife of Jacob Windemaker; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim served in the US Marine Corps. Member of Vintondale VFW Post 5211. Former Police Officer in Vintondale. Retired coal miner and also worked in the DeGol Organization. Member UMWA Local 1386. Member Vintondale Firemans Club. Jim enjoyed spending much of his time at the Ebensburg Senior Center. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo, Pastor Asa Sherman, officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim’s memory may be made to the American Lung Association.
