Stiles, Frederick J. 81 of Nicktown, after a long illness, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, November 24, 2004 at the home of his daughter Carolyn, surrounded by his loved ones. Born September 10, 1923 in Heilwood, son of Edward Hale and Leora May (Stephens) Stiles. Preceded in death parents, sisters: M. Alice and Dorothy J.; brother David; son-in-law Alvie J. Toy; and grandson-in-law John Zimmerman. Fred's wife Betty J. (Marsh) passed away September 15, 2004, ending a marriage union of 54 years. Survived by his devoted children: Carolyn, wife of David Johns, Nicktown; Linda Toy, and her fiancee, William Filler, Belsano; Fred, and companion Betty Hensel, Twin Rocks; Sharon, wife of Michael Edwards; Janet, wife of Daniel McQuay; all of Ebensburg; and Sandra, wife of Brian Albright, of Nanty Glo. Fred was a loving grandfather to TracyHope (Toy) Zimmerman; David & Adam Johns; Nathan & Nicole Swartz; and Daniel McQuay; and step-grandchildren: Zak Edwards and Justin Hensel, and great-grandsons: John Jay "J.J." Zimmerman and Tristan Swartz. Fred is survived by brothers and sisters: Norman and Jenny Stiles; Nicktown; Edward Hale Stiles, Johnstown; M. Wayne and Gretta Stiles, Nicktown; Daryl and Lynn Joiner, Northern Cambria; Mary Martha, and Delone Friend, Florida; Erma and Murray Lanzendorfer, Ebensburg, Naomi and Floyd Noland, Florida; and brothers & sisters-in-law: Ralph & Grace Putman; Ronald & Lola Rhoades; Raymond & Nancy Marsh; and Delores Marsh, all of Nicktown; Ken & Sherri Marsh, New York; and dear friends Bernard & Janet Stephens, of Nanty Glo. Fred will be sadly missed by his caregivers, Vicki Murphy, Rae Ann Scanlan and Patti Settles, and his sister Daryl, whose love and devotion during his illness was so appreciated. Fred was a member of the Nicktown Grange. He served in the Army infantry during World War II in Saipan, South Pacific. He retired from Florence Mining Company in 1992. Fred's passion was the love he had for his farm, where he spent most of his life. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Saturday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg, where funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, the Rev. Marvin Lowery, officiaiting. Burial will follow at the Ivason Cemetery on the family farm in Nicktown.
