NEUGEBAUER - The Rev. John J., age 78, of Dmitri Manor, 3 St. Mary's Lane, Hollidaysburg, Pa., died Saturday, July 8, 2006, at his residence after a brief illness. The Rev. Neugebauer was born in Altoona, Pa., on March 15, 1928, the son of the late Leo T. and Marie F. (Horning) Neugebauer. He retired July 16, 2003, as a Roman Catholic priest at Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown and celebrated his 50th anniversary as a priest in May 2005. Father Neugebauer served at St. John Gualbert Parish, Johnstown; Immaculate Conception Parish, Lock Haven; Immaculate Conception Parish, Dudley; Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Altoona; pastor at St. Mary's Parish, Nanty Glo; and chaplain at Hollidaysburg Veterans Home. Father was also area chaplain for Knights of Columbus. Father Neugebauer attended Cathedral School from 1935-1943; St. Charles Seminary, Catonsville, Md., from 1943-1949; and St. Mary's Seminary, Baltimore, Md., from 1949-1955. He was ordained May 21, 1955, by the Most Rev. Richard T. Guilfoyle in the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona. He is survived by brother, L. Thomas (wife, Dorothy) Neugebauer, Pittsford, N.Y.; one niece, Kathie (husband, Frank) Suriano, of Orlando, Fla.; and one nephew, Greg (wife, Elycia) Neugebauer, of Plano, Texas. A funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Altoona, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2006, with the Most Rev. Joseph E. Adamec as celebrant. Committal rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona. Friends will be received Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and Rite of Reception will be held Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 2700 Broad Ave., Altoona. Arrangements are by the Jones Funeral Home, Altoona.
