SCHOOP - Lewis A., 81, Gettysburg, formerly of Nanty Glo, died July 27, 2006, at Gettysburg Hospital. Born March 28, 1925, in Johnstown, son of the late George and Grace (Leckey) Schoop. Preceded in death by first wife, Helen Adams. Survived by wife, Doris E. Schoop, formerly of Johnstown; children, Evelyn Mattern, and husband, Carl R., Richland; Robert, and wife, Kathleen, Mineral Wells, Texas; Darlene North, and husband, Richard Cecil, Gettysburg; Richard, and wife, Lynette, Virginia Beach, Va.; and Sharon Flick, and husband, Richard, Suffolk, Va.; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and brothers and sisters, Lois Jane Griffith, and husband, William, Vinco, and John Lythgoe, and wife, Laverne, Nanty Glo. Attended Gettysburg Bible Baptist Church and was a member of Lakeside Community Church of the Nazarene, Ebensburg. Retired from Conemaugh -- Black Lick Railroad after 32 years. U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II. Life member and past commander of Samuel L. Burkhart Post, Mundys Corner. Member of Nanty Glo VFW Post 3489, and American Legion posts 619, Nanty Glo, and 202, Gettysburg. Member of Nanty Glo VFW, Post 3489, and a life member of the Pennsylvania Southern Gospel Music Association. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Bowser-Ondriezek Funeral Home, Nanty Glo, and from 10 until time of service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, the Rev. Bret Metcalfe. Interment, Benshoff Hill Cemetery. Military rites will be done by local veterans organizations. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family.
