PARKIN - David L. "Sparky," 88, Ebensburg, died Nov. 7, 2006, in Ebensburg. Born Jan. 22, 1918, in Ernest, son of William and Amanda (Reed) Parkin. Preceded in death by parents; wife, the former Frances Caldwell; son, Lawrence; brother, William; sisters, Agnes Orange, Mary Ford, Bernice Hanna; and companion, Ann Pilot. Survived by these sons, David, married to the former Georgette Wytosick, Portage; Richard, married to the former Kathye Ball; Terry, and companion, Jean; and John "Jack," married to the former Janet Buterbaugh, all of Ebensburg; also 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Brother of Ruth Edwards, Ebensburg, and Elaine Anderson, Syracuse, N.Y. Army veteran of World War II, having served in Alaska. Life member of VFW Post 4963, and member of American Legion Post 363, and LOOM Lodge 681, all of Ebensburg. Former owner of Sparky's Cheverlot, Colver, and P--P Tire, Ebensburg. Member of Cambria County Industrial Old Timers Baseball Association. Played pro baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team, Pittsburgh Pirates and scouted for the Philadelphia Phillies. Sparky enjoyed playing golf and was the ranger at the Ebensburg Country Club. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Matevish and Matevish Funeral Home, Ebensburg, where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Pastor Frank Hodges. Committal, Lloyd Cemetery, Ebensburg.
