Obituary of Madeline Mathews

Mathews - Madeline (Riddle), 84, of Ebensburg, passed away December 28, 2006 at Laurel Crest Manor. Born February 2, 1922 in New Washington, Pa., daughter of the late William G. and Hattie (McCracken) Riddle. Preceded in death by husband Fred L. Mathews; brothers Roy and Max Riddle, and son-in-law Fred McAllister. Survived by son, John William, and wife Thelma, Tunkhannock, Pa. and daughter, Betty E.McAllister, Souderton, Pa.; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also survived by sister Ruth (Harold) Kline of Ebensburg. Madeline was a longtime self-employed hairdresser in Ebensburg and had also worked at the Ebensburg State School for ten years. She was a graduate of the former Nicks Beauty Academy in Johnstown and was a World War II veteran, having served in the W.A.C. She was also a member of the "Creative Hands" Club. Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg, where a funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Sunday, the Rev. William Davis, nephew of the deceased, officiating. Interment at Lloyd Cemetery.
