NIEBAUER - Gerald "Jerry," "Ripper," 86, 2000 Cambridge Drive, Davidsville, formerly of Ebensburg, died Feb. 3, 2007, at Laurel View Village, Davidsville. Born Oct. 13, 1920, in St. Lawrence, son of Anthony and Rose (Gearhart) Niebauer. Preceded in death by parents; wife, former Naomi Mangold; brothers, Emmanuel, Germaine, Calestus and Eligius. Survived by these children: Jerry, husband of Shirley Berrier, Westerville, Ohio; Karen, wife of Paul Hornick, Johnstown; and Joyce, wife of Richard Perdue, Walkertown, N.C.; grandchilren, Dan Hornick, Ryan Perdue and Shirley's son, Marc. Brother of William, Indiana; Anna Kent, Altoona; and Rita Rogers, Hollidayburg. Jerry remained upbeat even in sickness and could often be heard singing in the hallways at Laurel View Village. He especially enjoyed his daily wheelchair ride to the snack shop for a cup of coffee or just to say hello and how are you to anyone he met. Jerry will be sorely missed by all his friends and the staff at Laurel View. Retired from Bethlehem Mines 33, Ebensburg. Member of UMWA Local 1368, Ebensburg. Army veteran of World War II. Life member of VFW Post 4963 and LOOM Lodge 681, both of Ebensburg. Life member of both the Dauntless Fire Company, Ebensburg, and Patton Fire Company. Friends received from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at Matevish and Matevish Funeral Home, Ebensburg, where vigil wake services will be held Monday. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Name Catholic Church, Ebensburg, the Rev. Monsignor Arnold L. Gaus. Committal, St. Benedict's Cemetery, Carrolltown. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Dauntless Fire Company, Holy Name School Angel Fund or Laurel View's Chapel Fund in Jerry's Memory. Dauntless Fire Company service at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
