MERGEN - Paul N., 77 of Myers Street, Ebensburg, died May 3, 2007 at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus. Born July 13, 1929 in Scranton, PA son of the late Paul N. and Hertha (Melloy) Mergen. He grew up in Revloc, where he earned the nickname "Pidge" from the racing pigeon pastime he enjoyed with his father. Upon graduation at Central Cambria High School in 1947, Paul enlisted in the Army and served as a staff sergeant in the 399th Medical Evac stationed in Landstuhl, Germany, where he met his wife, Margot. They were married in Bad Neuenahr, Germany on February 14, 1953 prior to returning to the states. They have been married for 54 years. He is survived by his loving wife, the former Margot Vallender; and children: Bianca McNulty and close friend Joe Moxin of Hollidaysburg; Derrick and his wife Irene Mergen of Indiana; Nicolyn, and husband Fred Colbert of North Highlands, California and Dorian and his wife Mary Mergen of Kingston, Tennessee. Also survived by grandchildren: Erin McNulty, Kurt (wife Lisa) & Dane Mergen, Gwendolyn Colbert, and Callie & Payden Mergen. A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, he was a chemical engineer who worked in the nuclear power industry for Westinghouse Corporation, NUS Corporation, and retired from the Clinton Plant of Illinios Power, where he served as chemistry department supervisor. He was an avid Steelers, Pirates, and Pitt fan. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and collecting vintage radios. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Sunday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg, where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday. Interment at Lloyd Cemetery.
