Obituary of Kevin Joseph Long

LONG - Kevin Joseph Sr., 60, Ebensburg, died Oct. 11, 2007, at home. Born Feb. 14, 1947, in Croyle Township, son of Aloysius and Catherine (Bender) Long. Preceded in death by parents and brother, Max. Survived by wife, the former Thelma (Schrift), whom he married May 18, 1968; children, Kevin Joseph Jr., married to the former Halli Turner, Virginia Beach, Va.; Gregory Alan, married to the former Michelle Sizemore, Columbus, Ohio; Chad Patrick, married to the former Heidi Winslow, Galena, Ohio; Shawn Timothy, married to the former Lori Michaels, Gahanna, Ohio; Brian Michael, and fiancee, Betsy Yates, New Albany, Ohio; and Marc Christopher, Dublin, Ohio; and grandchildren, Kyla, Jax, Adam, Aiden, Katie, Allie, Ryan, Nate, Jada and Zach. Brother of Alice (Bob) Leiden, St. Lawrence, Pa.; Joan (Ed) Dumm, Nicktown; Edwin (Betty) Long, Eugene (Maureen) Long, Gemma (Mike) Oyaski and Margaret Long, all of Ebensburg; Denis (Mary) Long and Chuck (Cathy) Long, both of Summerhill; and Mary Bernadette (Craig) Coleman, Houston, Texas. He resided in Warren for 34 years before moving back to Ebensburg. He graduated in 1967 from Penn State with an associate engineering degree and worked at Penelec for 36 years and retired in 2003 as superintendent of Warren Power Plant. Kevin volunteered at St. Joseph School and Pleasant Township Volunteer Fire Company in Warren. He coached tabby football, grade school basketball and 17 years of Little League baseball. He loved golf, bowling and playing softball. Member of Knights of Columbus, Moose Lodge, VFW and Holy Name Church. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Matevish and Matevish Funeral Home, Ebensburg, where vigil wake service will be held Sunday evening. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Name Catholic Church, Ebensburg, the Rev. Monsignor Arnold L. Gaus. Committal, Holy Name Cemetery, Ebensburg.
