COLEMAN - John F. "Jack", Ph.D, 75, of Ebensburg, passed away October 12, 2007 at Altoona Hospital. Born April 29, 1932 in Medford, Mass., son of the late John J. and Mary Agnes (Kearney) Coleman. Preceded in death by sisters, Laurien Carroll, Elizabeth Mallon and Barbara O' Neil. Survived by wife of 51 years, the former Ann Sorensen, and children, Kathleen (Patrick) Dean, Ohio; Christopher (Gwen), Wisconsin; Kevin (Elizabeth), Maryland; and John F., Jr. (Julie), State College. Grandchildren Ryan, Kevin and Erin Dean; Christopher Jr. and Katlyn; Allie and Tyler. Also survived by brother, Gerard (Alice); and sister, Virginia Woodside, both of Mass. and numerous nieces and nephews. Jack received his B.A. and M.A from Boston College and his Ph. D from the Pennsylvania State University. Professor Emeritus of St. Francis University where he taught History for 40 years and was former chairman of the History & Political Science Department. Author of "The Disruption of the Pennsylvania Democracy:1848-1860", and numerous scholarly articles. Past President PA Historical Assoc., Cambria County Historical Society, and Lake Glendale Sailing Club. Member National Park Service Citizens Advisory Group and Ebensburg Zoning Board. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family, in accordance with Jack's wishes. Memorial contributions in Jack's memory may be made to the Dr. John F. Coleman History Scholarship Fund at St. Francis University. Arrangements by the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg.
