Smith - William "Daniel", 85 of N. Center Street, Ebensburg, PA., passed away November 7, 2007 at Memorial Medical Center. Born July 29, 1922 in MacDonaldton, Somerset County, son of the late William E. and Opal E. (Brown) Smith. Preceded in death by wife, the former Verna L. Francis, who passed away August 4, 2005. Survived by sons: Daniel P., married to the former Mary Wilson, Warren, Ohio; and Kenneth D., married to the former Gloria Steiner, Ebensburg. Also grandchildren: Jason and Todd Smith, and Clinton, Ashley, and Bradley Smith. Dan was a retired agent with the Prudential Insurance Company with 31 years of service. A World War II Army veteran, he had served in the Battle of the Bulge and was the recipient of the European Asiatic Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with five bronze stars and the French Freedom Medal. Member of Post 4963 VFW and Post 363 American Legion, Ebensburg. Had attended the Ebensburg United Methodist Church and the Bethel Assembly of God Church with his wife. Friends will be received from 6 to 9:00 p.m., Thursday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday at the Ebensburg United Methodist Church, the Rev. Roger Johnson, officiating. Interment at Lloyd Cemetery. Graveside military rites by the Menoher Post 155 VFW Ritual Team. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dan's memory may be made to the Ebensburg United Methodist Church.
