BEARER - Dr. Elizabeth, M.D., 55, Ebensburg, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2008 at Laurel Crest Manor. Born July 25, 1952 in Wichita Falls, Texas. Preceded in death by paternal grandparents Clair and Regina "Jean" Bearer. Survived by father Clair A. and his wife Ethel (Haynes) Bearer, Versailles, Kentucky; step-mother Louise Lynch, Mineola, Texas; sister Patricia (Leo) Ladouceur, Farmington, New Mexico; uncles, Eugene and Paul Bearer, Ebensburg; aunt, Sr. Ruth Bearer, C.S.J., McKees Rock, Pa.; cousin Connie (Bob) Miller, Ebensburg; and nieces and nephews: Scott Ladouceur, Ashleigh and Heidi Miller, and Jacob, Allison and Gregory Bearer. Graduated with a BS in Medical Technology from Texas Christian University, received her M.D. from the University of Miami, and attained a Ph.D. in Immunology from the University of California -Davis. Elizabeth served as a Medical Technician at Tawan Hospital, Al Ain, Abu Dhabi, U.A.E. between 1980-83 and was certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease. Elizabeth's passions included family genealogy including four different sides of her family, reading, writing, beadwork, and was interested in African culture. She was an active peace activist and dedicated her life to bringing hope to the hopeless. Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m., Friday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg, where a vigil prayer service will be held Friday evening. Funeral Mass will be held at 12:30 p.m., Saturday at Holy Name Roman Catholic Church, the Rev. Msgr. Arnold L. Gaus, celebrant. Committal in New Mexico. In lieu of flowers, donations in Elizabeth's memory may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph, 1020 State Street, Baden, PA. 15005.
