Obituary of Thomas Andrew Solarz

SOLARZ – Thomas Andrew, 73, of Nanty Glo, passed away Aug. 2, 2021 at UPMC-Shadyside. Born May 9, 1948 in Johnstown, son of the late Walter and Catherine Solarz. Preceded in death by an older brother, who died in infancy; brother, Joseph; and brother in law, Thomas Campbell. Survived by brothers, Charles Solarz; and Michael (Annie) Solarz; and sister, Mary Ann Campbell. He will be deeply missed by Alice, his wife; four step children, Patty Moody, Sandy Felosky; Joe Felosky; and Gary Felosky. Tom is also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Nanty Glo. Tom enlisted as a member of the US Army and served as a sergeant in Germany. He was an avid runner, never having missed a day, rain or shine, for nearly 40 years. He also enjoyed participating in machine bowling. Tom was self-employed in plumbing and heating for 50 years and was dedicated to all his customers. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo, where vigil prayer service will be held. Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. on Saturday at St. Mary’s Church, the Rev. Leonard Voytek, celebrant. Committal, St. Mary’s Cemetery. Military rite by Nanty Glo, Twin Rocks and Vintondale Veterans Ritual Team. In lieu of flowers, donations in Tom’s memory may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or to The American Heart Association. Condolences may be left for the family at www.askew-houser.com
