Obituary of Evelyn L. Felix

FELIX - Evelyn Lacey, 96, of Ebensburg, passed away peacefully with family at her side on September 27, 2021 in Ebensburg.  Evelyn was the first born to Joseph and Margaret (McQueeney) Lacey on July 17, 1925 and was a long-time resident of Ebensburg.  She graduated from Central Cambria High School where she met her lifetime love and future husband, Bernard Charles Felix, Sr..  Before her marriage though, she graduated from Mount Aloysius College and headed off to Washington DC to help with the war effort.  At the end of WW II, she and Bernard were married and lived their life together until his passing in 2000.  She is survived by her six children:   Bernard; Patricia (Stanley); H. David (Debra); Joseph; Martha (Jamie) and Michael.  She also leaves 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.  Last surviving member of her immediate family, she is preceded in death by her husband Bernard, her brother, John Lacey, and sisters:  Patricia Friday, Rosemarie Dondanville, and Dorothy Mehler.  Evelyn will be remembered as a loving mother, friend, teacher, and role model as she touched many lives.  She enjoyed spending time on her front porch with friends and neighbors.  She was a teacher at Bishop Carroll High School and Central Cambria High School and was a substitute teacher at many other high schools in the area.  She was a longtime member of Holy Name Roman Catholic Church.  And avid bridge player, she always seemed to have the “luck of the Irish” with the game.  Evelyn’s family and friends will miss her greatly every day and will continue to celebrate the beautiful life she lived. 

Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m., Friday at Holy Name Church Narthex until the time of Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m., Friday, Rev. Brian Warchola, celebrant.  Entombment at Holy Name Mausoleum.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Evelyn's memory may be made to the Ebensburg Free Public Library or to the Holy Name School Angel Fund.  Arrangements are in the care of the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg.  (www.askew-houser.com)
