Obituary of Margaret M. Kachik

Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

KACHIK – Margaret M. (Columbus), of Twin Rocks, passed away October 17, 2021, daughter of the late Thomas J. and Anna (Swalligan) Columbus. Preceded in death by husband, Joseph M. Kachik; infant sister, Anna; brother, Thomas Columbus; and sister, Josephine Clark. Survived by daughter, Kelly (Steve Karal) Kachik; sisters, Irene Tatarko and Stella (William) Rogal; brother, Joseph (Debbie) Columbus; and numerous nieces and nephews. “Margie”, as she was affectionately known by most, started out her working career with Attorney, then later, Judge Thomas Swope in Ebensburg, retiring in her mid-seventies. She really missed the courthouse and the many people she met along the way. Margaret enjoyed singing in the folk choir at the former St. Charles Parish in Twin Rocks, where she was a member, then later at St. Mary’s Parish in Nanty Glo. What made that special to her was that she was among many family members that helped make up the choir, such as her daughter, husband, nieces, nephew and sister. That meant everything to her to be able to share that joy with them, as family was an important fabric that helped shape her life. At home, Margie enjoyed sewing, especially for her daughter, friends, and of course, other family members. Her specialty was her fabulous Halloween costumes she fabricated. Flower gardening and bird watching made her feel at peace with the earth; as well as going fishing with her husband, Joe when they were younger. Early morning trail walks were a time for her to pray and reflect. A tender heart was always available for dogs and cats that were in the household, as she would always be caught “sneaking extra treats” to them. Margie enjoyed watching the Pirates and Penn State games with her husband, of whom now she will be reunited with. She was a devoted wife, mother, and friend to many, and will be greatly missed by all. Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Nanty Glo, the Rev. Leonard Voytek, celebrant. Committal, St. Charles Cemetery, Twin Rocks. Arrangements are in care of the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo.
