Obituary of Mildred L. Sekerak

SEKERAK – Mildred L., 96, of Mundys Corner, passed away peacefully December 18, 2021 at home surrounded by her loving family.  Jesus took her home, ushering her into glory.  She was born May 7, 1925 in Marion Center, daughter of the late Joseph and Emma Mearnic.  Preceded in death by husband Ernest J. Sekerak, daughters Emily Marie Rummel and Jacqueline T. Buckingham, and sister, Dolores Chapman.  Survived by children:  Patricia Howard, at home; Ernest M. (Elaine) Sekerak, and Brenda (Edward) Thompson, both of Belsano;  grandchildren: Shawn Moore (Mary Edmiston) , Ernest J  Sekerak (Kristin Borlie), Natalie (Chad) McCarthy, and Randy Rummel; and great-grandchildren: Makenna, Blake, Zander, Cameron & Alivia.  Also survived by brothers,  Thomas Mearnic, Detroit, Michigan and Marvin (Patricia) Mearnic, of Indiana County.  Mildred was an active member of St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church, an avid bird watcher, and in her younger years enjoyed bowling on a woman’s local team.  She enjoyed hunting with her family, tended to vegetable and botanical gardens, and was a gourmet cook.  In her youth before marriage, she had traveled to Detroit to work in the factories for the war effort.  She enthusiastically read a variety of literature, bible studies, and devotionals on a daily basis, sometimes aloud for several hours in her later years.  She loved her family and enjoyed meeting on Fridays for fish fries with the “Golden Girls”, her closest friends. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo.  Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Vianney Church, the Rev. Peter Lyons, TOR, celebrant.  Entombment at Holy Name Mausoleum, Ebensburg.   In lieu of flowers, donations in Mildred’s memory may be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation  (www.alz.org)
