Obituary of Margaret McKenrick

McKENRICK – Margaret (Harvey), 96, of Ebensburg, passed away peacefully March 22, 2022 at Amber Hills, Ebensburg.  Born January 21, 1926 in New Brunswick, New Jersey, daughter of the late Edward and Mabel (Hoitt) Harvey.  Preceded in death by husband, Atty. Fremont J. McKenrick, son Bruce F. McKenrick, and sisters: Eleanor DeWall and Winifred Furth.  Survived by daughter:  Ann (Gary) Chicchi, East Brunswick, NJ; and grandchildren:  Sarah (David) Estes; Rachel (Andrew) Cross; Laura (Kevin) Norris; Kevin McKenrick and Neil McKenrick; and great grandson: Wesley Norris.  Also survived by daughter-in-law Janis (Jim) Stratton, Ebensburg.  Margaret was a member of the Ebensburg Presbyterian Church, where she had been active in the Presbyterian Woman’s Association and served as​ one of the first women elders.   She had been active in the Ebensburg Woman’s Club and served on the board of the Ebensburg Cambria Public Library for many years, acting as president during the fund-raising and construction of the new library facility.   An avid golfer, she was a member of the Ebensburg Country Club Woman’s League, the Glendale Sailing Club with her husband Fremont, and enjoyed cross country skiing well into her eighties.  Margaret received her bachelor's degree from the New Jersey College for women and a master's degree in nutrition from Columbia Teacher's College in NYC.  She worked for Pennsylvania Cooperative Extension and as a substitute teacher, but most of her life was devoted to caring for her family.  Friends will be received from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, April 1st, at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 2nd, at the Ebensburg Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Owar Ojulu, officiating.  Interment at Lloyd Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Margaret’s memory may be made to the Ebensburg Presbyterian Church Organ Fund or the Ebensburg Cambria Public Library.  Condolences to the family may be left at www.askew-houser.com
