Obituary of James A. Gallagher
GALLAGHER – James A. “Guss” of Mundys Corner, passed away July 2, 2022 at the Hollidaysburg Veteran’s Home. Born February 27, 1931 in Nanty Glo, son of the late Augustus and Naomi Gallagher. Last surviving member of his immediate family he is preceded in death by five siblings, and his wife of 61 years, the former Phyllis Joan “Josie” (Ringler) Gallagher. Survived by children: Patrick (Karen) Gallagher, Mundys Corner; Gwen (Rodney) Paul, Mundys Corner; Michael Gallagher, Richland; Elizabeth (Kevin) Lauer, Mechanicsburg, Pa.; Pam Stager, Shermans Dale, Pa. and Jennifer (Dan) Hill, Camp Hill, Pa. Also 13 grandchldren and 21 great-grandchildren. Retired from Bethlehem Steel and former bus driver for Castelli Transport, Ebensburg. Jim was a member of St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church. A Korean War veteran and member of the Nanty Glo American Legion Post. Jim was a self-taught accordion player and loved Polka music. Jim loved his kids and grandkids, he will be long remembered for his affection for “claw machines”, re-gifting his “winnings” to local Children’s Hospitals. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo, where a vigil prayer service will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday at St. John Vianney Church, the Rev. Fr. Timothy Harris T.O.R., celebrant. Interment at Holy Name Cemetery, Ebensburg. Military Rite by Blacklick Valley Ritual Team. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital (www.stjude.org).
