Obituary of Claude C. Wirfel

WIRFEL - Claude C., 90, "Unc" as he was known best, of New Germany, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2023.  Born January 22, 1933 in Summerhill, son of the late Aloysius and Theresa (Weinzierl) Wirfel.  Preceded in death by wife, the former Mary Ella (Susko) Wirfel, brothers Leroy, James, and Regis; and sisters Marie Adams,  Arlene Chimelewski, and Ruth Henry.  Survived by sisters Adella Brown, Alice Moyer, Evelyn Woomer, numerous in-laws and numerous devoted nieces and nephews.  Claude was retired from Bethlehem Steel Corporation with 34 years of service.  He enjoyed lawn work, gardening, bowling, hunting and shooting trap.  At his request, there will be no viewing, however friends are welcome to join his family for a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m., Thursday at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, New Germany, the Rev. Fr. Joseph Nale, celebrant. Interment to follow at the church cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Claudes memory may be made to his church.  Arrangements are in the care of the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg.  Condolences to the family may be left at www.askew-houser.com
