Obituary of Richard J. Dow

DOW – Richard “Dick” J., 77 of Ebensburg, passed away suddenly May 25, 2023 as a result of an automobile accident.  Born December 5, 1945 in Ebensburg, son of the late George M. and Elizabeth Dow.  He is preceded in death by his son, David A. Dow; sister, Betty Jane Dahlin, and brother, George R. “Spider” Dow.  Survived by his wife, Therese L. Dow, to whom he was married 51 years; and children;  Daughter, Vanessa A. (Gary) Bailey, Grandchildren, Elisabeth, Isaac, and Owen Bailey; Daughter, Amanda M. (James) Robinson, Grandchildren Alexzander, Richard, and Gabriel Robinson;  and Son, Justin E. (Sandra) Dow, Grandchildren, Vanessa Landram, Hunter and Chase Dow; and Grandchildren (David A. Dow’s children) Karissa (Andrew) Arnold; Mason (Abby) Dow; and great granddaughter, Nora Dow.  Dick was a member of  Holy Name Roman Catholic Church.  SSG. Dow was a veteran of the United States Army having served in both the Vietnam and Iraq wars. During that time he was awarded three Army Accommodation Medals,  retiring after 23 years of service.  He was an active Adjutant, past Commander of Ebensburg Post 363 American Legion and an active member of the VFW Post 4964.  Dick worked at Bethlehem Steel Company both in the steel mills and the coal mines for over 20 years. Friends will be received from 2-4p.m. and 6-8p.m. Tuesday June 13th at Askew-Houser, Inc. Ebensburg, where a vigil service will be held; and from 10a.m. until time of Funeral Mass at 11a.m. on Wednesday at Holy Name Church. Interment at Holy Name Cemetery, where a Military Rite will be held. In lieu of flowers donations in Dick’s memory may be made to the American Legion or to the family for the soon to be created non-profit.  Condolences for the family may be left at www.askew-houser.com
