Obituary of Theresa E. Cammarata
CAMMARATA – Theresa E. passed away June 2, 2023, in Bellevue, with her sister, Sister Elaine Hromulak, at her side. She was born January 12, 1932, in Barnesboro, the daughter of Albert “Juke” and Elizabeth (Hozdik) Hromulak.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, A. Carmen Cammarata, who died in August 2005. Theresa and Carmen were married July 3, 1954, and shared a lifelong, loving relationship. They lived in Patton, then relocated to Ebensburg, where they lived for many years.
Theresa was also preceded in death by her two brothers, Edward Hromulak (Gladys, deceased), and Albert (Helen), and her sister, Alberta Kastelic (Bill, deceased). Theresa is survived by her sisters, Bernadette DeMay (Amadeo “Deedy”, deceased); Florence Sheredy (John, deceased); and Sister Elaine (Elizabeth) Hromulak O.S.F.; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Theresa excelled academically and professionally. She graduated from Barnesboro High School in 1949 and was class Valedictorian. She participated in chorus, yearbook activities, and was also a member of the cheerleading squad. Professionally, she was a Registered Nurse who graduated from the former Miners Hospital School of Nursing in Spangler. She was the office nurse for Dr. Richard Murray in Patton, and later for Dr. William Conn in Barnesboro. During her nursing career she touched the lives of many people. Her career was her passion.
After retirement, she remained very active. She was a member of The Ebensburg Democratic Women’s Club for 20 years, holding the office of Treasurer, and served as the Democratic Committee Woman in her precinct in Ebensburg for many years. Theresa was also a member of the Miners Hospital Retired Nurses Association.
For the last 18 months, Theresa was a resident of Mt. Assisi Place in Bellevue. She was so grateful to the staff for their many kindnesses to her and always said “Thank You,” and then would sing “I’m in Heaven!” She willingly participated in all activities, even entertaining the other residents with her rendition of the “Hula Dance.”
She would often repeat out loud “Thank You God for all of Your blessings…You are so good to me!” and frequently sang the refrain “O Lord my God, how great Thou art.” A Life Well Lived! Rest in peace, Theresa.
