Not long ago I was reflecting on my Pennsylvania youth and came upon fond memories of my elementary music teacher, Mrs. Varner. What a treasure she was. Rest in peace dear lady.

Evelyn taught 2 of my daughters music lessons and also worked with them at Church. She became a beloved friend. Evelyn's unconditional love and encouragement will live in our hearts and the heart's of many through eternity. We praise God for her life and love.

So sorry to hear of Evelyn's passing. I could write a book about my relationship with her and her late husband Bob. The memories of which I will always cherish. They played a huge role in my life and are responsible in many ways for the person I am today.

I had the honor of having Mrs. Varner for music and choral in eight grade. Our class also did a Tom Sawyer play that year which she directed; I portrayed the part of the black servant Jim as a result of her encouragement. As events would have it, I along with my brothers worked on the farm for her husband until we moved on to other careers. So many bricks, so many wheelbarrows of mortar that were used to build that original ski shop. Thank you Mrs. Varner for all you have done and may Heavenly Father provide all you need to continue your devotion to music even in heaven.

I am sad to read of the passing of the woman who guided my musical experience through 8 years at Ebensburg Grade School, the beloved Mrs. Varner. As an educator of 50 years myself, I have deep appreciation (both meanings of the word) for her energy, enthusiasm, musical knowledge, and especially the skill needed to stage operettas. Heaven has gained a wonderful teacher, person, and musician. Long live the memories!
