Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

HALLAHAN – James D., 84, of Ebensburg, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2023 at home, surrounded by his loving family.  Born July 5, 1939 in Chicago, IL., son of the late James B. and Laverne (Eudakis) Hallahan.  Preceded in death by his former wife, Helen Kowal.  Survived by children:  Danielle (Greg) Parana, Colorado;  Gretchen (Ryan) Martin, Maryland; and James D. Hallahan III, of Ebensburg;  six grandchildren:  Lydia, Jack and Nicholas Parana and Allie, Reece, and Charlotte Martin.  Also survived sisters: Gael Dunn and Ruth Merieux.  A U.S. Coast Guard veteran.  Jim was a graduate of Ohio State University.  He had taught economics at Mount Aloysius College and was owner of Environmentally Preferred Specialty Chemicals (EPSC) in Ebensburg.  Jim loved to birdwatch, listen to music (especially jazz), enjoyed the great outdoors through hiking, following his beloved Cleveland Indians Baseball, and had traveled extensively as he followed his passion for Great Lakes maritime photography.  Having grown up in a family of ship captains, his photography hobby took him to locks, lakes and canals throughout the United States and Canada, where he photographed Great Lakes freighters, ferries, and Coast Guard vessels, which reminded him of his youth.  At his request there will be no viewing.  In lieu of flowers: send donations to Waterkeeper Alliance
