Obituary of John Gaboda, Jr.

GABODA – John Jr., 102, of Jackson Twp., passed away Nov. 13, 2023. Born Nov. 8, 1921 in Czechoslovakia, son of the late John Sr. and Kathleen (Balog) Gaboda. Last surviving member of his immediate family.Preceded in death by wife Anna; and siblings, Irene, George, Kay, Joseph, Mary, Steve, Mike, Sonny, Janet and Pete. Survived by children, Peter (Corinne) Gaboda; Susann (Albert) Young; and Helen (Michael) Kolar. 5 Grandchildren and 12 Great Grandchildren. John served during WW II in the US Army. Retired from Bethlehem Mines and PennDOT. He enjoyed working for the most part of his life on the family farm. He loved fishing and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Life member of Nanty Glo VFW. Member UMWA.  John passed away peacefully in his family home on Sunday.  Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo, where Parastas will be sung at 6 p.m. that evening.  Military Rite will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 9:15 a.m. by Blacklick Valley Ritual Team, followed by funeral service at 9:30 a.m., with the Very Rev. Fr. George Johnson. Interment will follow at St. John the Baptist Orthodox Cemetery, East Conemaugh. Condolences may be left for the family at www.askew-houser.com
