Obituary of Nancy (Hagens) Bumford

BUMFORD – Nancy (Hagens) “Gram” “Lady J”, 86, of Colver, passed away January 18, 2024 at Hilltop Healthcare Center.  Born August 17, 1937 in Colver, daughter of the late Clyde and Margaret (Makin) Hagens.  Last surviving member of her immediate family, she is preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Lloyd Bumford; son, Dennis L. Bumford; sisters: Grace Holton, Gertrude Graham, and Dorothy Barefoot; and brothers Walter, Fred, Floyd, Eugene and Bernard Hagens.  Survived by children:  Darrell Bumford (Cheryl), Colver;  David (Casey) Bumford, Parkville, MD.; and Dena (Jim) Baker, Colver, and daughter-in-law Donna Bumford, Maryland.  Also grandchildren:  Brent (Linette) Bumford; Brandon Baker; Trever Baker (Alesha); Steven (Erin) O’Conner; Lacy (Dale) Swiegert; and Autumn Carrow (Pete);  great-grandchildren:  Arianne, Lilly and Willow Sweigert; Nacelle Bumford; and Steven O’Conner III.  Lifelong member of the Colver Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Fellowship Leader and member of the Presbyterian Woman’s Association.  Also a member of the Ebensburg Senior Activities Center.   She was a longtime sales associate at the former Ebensburg Jamesway for 24 years, and a bakery associate at the Ebensburg Walmart for 8 years.  She loved her roles as mother, grandmother and great grandmother and enjoyed working and being independent.  Unfortunately, for the past 6 years, Nancy battled Alzheimer’s Disease, her daily caregivers included her daughter Dena, Betty James Stoker, the compassionate staff at Hilltop and Gentiva Hospice. Friends will be received from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg.  Friends will also be received from noon Tuesday until time of Funeral Service at 1:30 p.m. at the Colver Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Dr. Stanley Bhasker, officiating.  Interment at Lloyd Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Nancy’s memory may be made to the Colver Presbyterian Church or the Colver Volunteer Fire Company & 40-Tech.
