Obituary of Catherine A. Rocus

ROCUS – Catherine A. (Rose), of Ebensburg, passed away February 8, 2024 in her home surrounded by loved ones. Born June 26, daughter of the late Donald and Anne Rose.  Cathy graduated with a Bachelors in Special and Elementary Education from Clarion State College, where she was one of the first female security officers with campus police. She went on to work for Appalachia Intermediate Unit 08 for 38 years. Cathy was an active member in the Holy Name Parish community, serving as a Eucharistic Minister, prayer chain member, festival chair, and “Turkey Queen” of the Holy Name Festival. She also served the Ebensburg community working with the EMS training at the local vo-tech for 8 years, volunteering with Potatofest for 30 years, and Wheels and Wings for 19 years.  She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who enjoyed visits and traveling to see those she loved. Catherine is preceded in death by brother, Donald H. Rose and sister, Marianne Rose Desso. Survived by children, Andrew D. (Megan) Rocus, Washington D.C.; Rusty L. (Sara) Rocus, Pittsburgh;  and Benjamin P. (Colleen) Rocus, West Chester; and granddaughters: April Ann, Emilia Rose,  June Mary, Morrigan Mallory, Mae Dawn, and Josie Mae. Also survived by sister, Christina A. Rose, Ebensburg and brother-in-law, Bruce Desso, Colorado. Friends will be received from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 14th; 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m Thursday, February 15th at Askew-Houser Funeral Home, Inc., Ebensburg where a vigil prayer service will be held Thursday.  A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 16th at Holy Name Catholic Church, Fr. Brian Warchola, celebrant. Interment, Christ Our Redeemer Cemetery, Pittsburgh, PA. Arrangements in the care of Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg.
