WESTRICK – Edgar W., Sr. “Ed”, 84, of Vinco, passed into Eternal Life on May 19, 2024 at Altoona UPMC Hospital. Born July 1, 1939 in Chest Springs, son of the late Herman and Mary Agnes (Whalen) Westrick.   Preceded in death by brother, Joseph; sister, Monica Groebel; step-daughter, Tracy Stephens; first wife, Lynnette (Brosius); grandson, Adam King, niece, Kimberly Westrick and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.  Survived by wife, Helen (Mehall) Westrick with whom he would have celebrated 45 years of marriage on September 27, 2024.  Also survived by sons, David (Annette) and Edgar W.; daughters, Virginia and Kathy (Paul) Johnston; Grandsons, Nicholas Westrick, Hunter Wilson and Jonathan King, all from Texas.  Step children, Viola Sands, Kenneth Wilson, Kim (Rick) Kmett, and Wade (Cindy) Wilson, all of Johnstown.   He had 8 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.  Also survived by sisters; Mary Ann (Shostek) Craig, Virginia Pfeiffer, and Cecelia (Stan) Rokavec; brother; Thomas (Cindy); and numerous nieces and nephews. Ed loved fishing and hunting, in fact, he hunted and fished up until 2020 when he had his right leg amputated.  He and Helen had a camper and enjoyed camping at Prince Gallitzin State Park as well as Beaver Valley Campground. His true love was dirt track racing being a driver at the Ebensburg, Windber and Jennerstown Tracks.  He seldom missed a race at Dog Hollow thanks to his Racing Buddy, Brian.   He led a very active life; retired from Bethlehem Steel, but his first love was construction, and acquired his skills while in the U S Navy.  He was one of the best and fastest brick layers in Jackson Township.    He was President of the Prince Gallitzin Pontoon Association, Past President and one of the former Founders of the Jackson Township Rod and Gun Club, former member and Treasurer of Jackson Township Hunting Camp in Barnes, PA.   He was a driving force in creating and maintaining the Lorain Park and Fishing Pond. Edgar was a very generous and loving man who was always willing to help any one of his friends, neighbors and relatives.   He will be sadly missed by many. Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo, where funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, the Rev. Robert Westrick, officiating. Interment, Grandview Cemetery, Johnstown. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Ed’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
