Obituary of Alan G. Young, Sr.

YOUNG - Alan G., Sr., 77, of Beverly, Massachusetts, passed away December 20, 2024 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, Mass., surrounded by his loving family. Born May 6, 1947, son of the late Edward Barnard and Mary (Balog) Young. Born to a military family in Beverly, Mass., he was raised and educated in many different places, including Washington, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Puerto Rico and Florida. An honorably discharged veteran, Alan proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army, volunteering for duty in Vietnam during the war. When he returned, Alan began a successful career as an auto-body mechanic honing his skills over the years and eventually opening his own shop. He retired to care for his aging parents. Alan became a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend and he was happiest when surrounded by family, involved in their varied activities and celebrating their many milestones. He was a man with a big body and a heart to match, who was sarcastic, with a wry sense of humor. His greatest joy was making others smile and laugh. Alan enjoyed fishing, loved a good treasure hunt with his metal detector and was an avid collector of sports memorabilia. He will be fondly remembered for his love of family, his quick smile and above all his enjoyment of every sandwich. Alan is survived by his son, Alan G., Jr. (Lisa) Young; grandchildren, Alan G. Young III and Adeline; siblings, Greg (Betty Anne) Young; Barry (the late Debra) Young; and Barbara (Clayton) Collupy; niece, Katherine Young; and nephews, Paul Young; Glenn Collupy; Thomas Collupy; and Gary Collupy. Friends will be received from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4 at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg, followed by interment at Lloyd Cemetery, Ebensburg.
